ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE AND PRESENTATION SKILLS
All the world´s a stage (William Shakespeare)
All the world´s a stage – and most of us are unrehearsed (Sean O´Casey)
Have you ever wished that you could:
- perform with more calm andconfidence?
- use your body and voice with more expression?
- give yourself a greater physical presence?
- speak more loudly without strain?
- present with more ease and less effort?
I offer you coaching in presentation skills against a background of the Alexander Technique. I offer both individual sessions and small group workshops (Workshops). In coaching sessions and workshops you will have the chance to learn and rehearse all the things listed above – and more.
Anyone can benefit, in particular: teachers, preachers, politicians, business people, lecturers ...
I particularly focus on presentation skills in English. I am a British English native speaker and teach courses in Presentation Skills at the English and American Studies Department of the University of Vienna.
We will have a look at:
Vocal elements – volume* resonance* pitch* intonation* pacing* pause* phrasing* (Voicework)
Physical elements – dealing with performance nerves* poise and posture* use of space* gesture* facial expression*
Verbal elements – making an impact* strong beginnings and endings* structure* clarifying the message* audience outcomes* use of sensory language, metaphors, images* building rapport*
If you are not a native speaker of English and are required to give presentations in English we can, in addition, have a look at:
pronunciation* rhythm and modulation* useful phrases* cultural differences in presentations*
We are all presenters. Everyday life is full of small stage entrances and exits. And the larger part of our impact is made up of non-verbal elements: how we move and how we sound.
The Alexander Technique helps us to control consciously those non-verbal elements. By learning to apply its basic principles we can develop habits which allow us to shine. We can present in whatever area we choose with authenticity and impact.
The Technique is often taught in performing arts colleges.
