Alexander Technique

What is it?

“If we stop doing the wrong thing, the right thing will do itself” (F.M.Alexander)

The Alexander Technique is a simple and practical method of self-help and learning. Countless people worldwide from all walks of life have benefited from it since it was originated by Frederick Matthias Alexander over 100 years ago.

Alexander TechniqueIt is based on the discovery that our everyday habits, for example how we sit, walk, stand, breathe, speak, have a deep impact on our wellbeing. Many of our aches and pains can be cured, alleviated or avoided by changing the way we move through life. Using the principles of the Technique we can learn to recognise our habits, stop doing what it is unhelpful for us to do and allow the right thing to do itself.

On a mental level the Technique teaches you that you have choices about how you live your everyday life. You can learn to cast off old, effortful habits and make way for easefulness instead.

On a physical level it encourages lengthening of the spine, release of unnecessary muscle tension, ease of breathing, greater lightness in bodily movement, and altogether more health and happiness.

As the Technique is based on learning to change the ways we move and think, it offers long-lasting solutions and long-term independence from therapists and doctors.
